Peru generates 23 000 tons of waste every 24 hours, only 1.9% is recycled. To address this problem, in 2018 the Peruvian Congress approved a law which states that all plastic products must contained 80% recycled materials. However, due to poor wasted management, Peru imports 1.2 millions tons of plastic per month, to comply with this law. In collaboration with Cirsys we developed IRBIN; the first social robot that uses artificial intelligence for recycling. IRBIN separates waste autonomously, simplifying a complex and inefficient 12-step process into five easy steps.
